From 1976 to 1996, he was Executive Garden and Outdoor Living Editor for Meredith. He was editor-in-chief and a columnist for the seminal web content and retail Web resource Garden.com, 1996-2001. He was named the American Horticultural Society’s Communicator of the Year for 2001. In that year he was also named a Fellow of the Garden Writers Association.
